While every season has it perks (good-bye lake season), Fall is my favorite time of year for so many reasons! I love cooler days, chilly evenings and the rich colors of the landscape in the fall. I love to wrap up in a cozy blanket and wear layers. I love the smell of a campfire, football games, and pumpkin spice everything! I also love that fall kicks off so many family gatherings between now and the end of the year.

October is birthday month for Lilly and I so we are sure to gather with friends and family to celebrate. Thanksgiving is very special as we come together with family and friends and then Christmas is here before you know it. Not that our family needs an excuse to gather but when we do, you can bet that the food will be plentiful and delicious.
We all have our “go to dishes” and my mom is known for her pies. You can bet that if we are gathering, she is bringing her pecan and chocolate pies. I am sharing my great grandmother’s pecan recipe that my mom hand wrote on this recipe card in 2003 for me to replicate. Side note: You may or may not agree but not all pecan and chocolate pies are created equal!

I love a pecan pie topped with pecan pieces so small that they go together to make the perfect top crust. What is even better? This recipe makes 2 so take one to a gathering and keep one at home! Oh and I haven’t had to “replicate” just yet. Sorry mom, but when you are the expert pie maker, you get that job EVERY time.

And let’s talk chocolate pies….the filling can easily be overwhelming with TOO MUCH chocolate and the meringue topping a disaster. I will admit I have yet to get this down pat myself but my mom’s pies always look perfect and taste even better. I am sharing her go to chocolate pie recipe passed down from a friend and I can promise you it will be a crowd pleaser!
You will have to let me know if you attempt one or both of these recipes this fall.
