I love Christmas traditions! Some of my favorite memories include helping my mom bake cookies. For years, mom would attend an annual cookie exchange with several ladies and while I loved helping her cook and divide up 4-6 cookies per little baggie, I loved what she would bring home even better! Speaking of….I need to go back and revisit some of those recipes to share with you!

To carry forward the tradition, we usually kick off our “Christmas vacation” with a little baking. I am sharing one of my favorite pictures of ALL TIMES. When the kids were little, I found the cutest aprons that said “Cookie Expert” and to this day, still have them saved. I snapped this picture years ago and when it pops back up in my Facebook memories, it makes me smile. If you have followed me on social, chances are you may have already seen this picture. How does time pass so quickly? I miss these little cookie experts!ย

I am kicking off Christmas week sharing a few of our favorite cookies and the recipes for you to try! Our top 2 MUST BAKES are the “Jelly Cookie” and the “Old Fashion Oatmeal Cookie”. There is a science to the perfect oatmeal cookie and I will be honest that I do not nail it all the time!
I have discovered that when it says to boil the sugar, milk, and butter for 1 minute…you need to boil it for 1 minute LOL (Not 30 seconds or 45 seconds….but 1 MINUTE). I think this is the difference maker if they set up or not! BUT…if you happen to fail, while they may not be easy to scoop up and take anywhere, they are always still eatable.

And the Jelly Cookie or AKA the “Thumbprint Cookie”! While you can use any jelly, we love using raspberry preserves. Mom has made these for years and I have included both of her recipesย for you to try this holiday season! Be sure to let me know what you think!ย
